EXETER TWP., Pa. – Forget the catwalk – it was all about walking Penny the dog during New York Fashion Week just a few days ago.
“It was a proud moment for me,” said Penny’s owner, Preety Kaur.
Kaur, a native of Exeter Township, is talking about the moment her Maltipoo, Penny, walked the runway at designer Anthony Rubio’s show.
“There were photographers taking pictures of them backstage, and finally I handed it off to the assigned model and the model walked it down the runway,” Kaur said.
Exeter City native Preety Kaur said Penny helps out at the Berks County Children’s Alliance Center when she’s not running the track.
Kaur says the moment of grief began as a dream. She saw a call for dog fashion models earlier this year and sent Penny’s photo and resume.
“I said, ‘It doesn’t hurt to hit him, you never know,'” Kaur said. “I mean, I’m from Berks County. It’s a long shot, but let’s try.”
Penny got the call and the job.
“I literally jumped up and down,” Kaur said. “At first I didn’t think it was true, but I was very excited.”
So they went to New York City and Penny modeled in Rubio’s show in February. Fast forward seven months, and she got the call again. On September 11, Penny hit the runway for her second Rubio fashion show.
“Surreal,” Kaur said. “I couldn’t believe that coming from a small town we reached the Big Apple.”
When she’s not in her furry fashion, Penny helps out around the country. She is a certified therapy dog and volunteers with the Children’s Alliance Center of Berks County.
“I would like to keep him very involved in our community,” Kaur said.
But the dog’s owner says that at 1-years-old, Penny’s modeling career is just getting started.
“We would definitely like to continue with New York Fashion Week,” Kaur said. “In fact, they even have LA Fashion Week.”
