City Life Org – 2022 Labor Day Weekend Travel Advisory

The agency anticipates more than 1.8 million passengers will travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International airports from Thursday, Sept. 1, through Tuesday, Sept. 6. This anticipated volume represents a decrease of 2 percent compared to the same holiday weekend in 2019.

At the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels, as many as 4.2 million vehicles are expected to cross the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels over the same six-day period based on recent travel trends, which is an estimate similar to actual traffic volumes from the same six-day holiday weekend in 2019.

A separate travel advisory for any lane closures or service changes for the remainder of the week following the holiday will be issued next week.

All travelers, whether by air or road, are strongly encouraged to allow for additional travel time or take public transit whenever possible.

ALL AIRPORTS & AIRTRAINS:

• To manage on-airport parking demand, the Port Authority is urgently calling on air travelers to pre-book parking spaces if they plan to travel to the agency’s airports by private car. Travelers who do not pre-book will be charged a summer peak period surcharge.

• LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service is fare free year-round to encourage the use of public transit to and from LaGuardia Airport, as announced in April 2022 by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. • Reminder for AirTrain JFK customers: John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Green Garage and AirTrain Station 2 have closed for demolition activities associated with the construction of JFK’s new Terminal One. For AirTrain JFK service to terminals 1 and 2, customers should use the combined AirTrain JFK station 1 & 2 (formerly Terminal 1 station). Parking for terminals 1 and 2 is available at the Red Garage at Terminal 8.
• Reminder for AirTrain JFK customers: Until further notice, AirTrain JFK service at the airport terminals operates in a single direction due to scheduled track work at AirTrain station Terminal 1&2. Customers should allow extra time for their travel to the terminals.

PATH

• On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, trains will operate on a regular Saturday schedule. A schedule of planned changes to PATH service during upcoming holidays in 2022 is available here.
• The southwest entrance to the PATH Harrison station is closed at all hours to accommodate demolition work ahead of a renovation of the station. During construction, riders are required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard. 
• Customers who use the WTC PATH station during overnights should use the entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center Transit Lobby. Oculus access is limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for enhanced cleaning and the safety and security of customers due to reduced traffic volumes. COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

• The Port Authority continues to follow the guidance of the New York and New Jersey public health authorities with respect to mask mandates at its public transportation facilities.

Per current New York public health guidance, the mask mandate remains in effect for the following New York facilities:

–                Port Authority Midtown Bus Terminal

–                George Washington Bridge Bus Station

–                World Trade Center Oculus Transportation Hub

–                LaGuardia Airport

–                John F. Kennedy International Airport

–                New York Stewart International Airport

Per current New Jersey public health guidance, the mask mandate has been lifted for the following New Jersey facilities, but masks are optional and welcome for all who choose to wear them at the following New Jersey facilities:

–                Newark Liberty International Airport

–                Teterboro Airport

The mask mandate remains in effect for the interstate PATH system (including stations and platforms, with the exception of open-air platforms).

• Domestic travelers entering New York or New Jersey should follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance here.
• International air travelers entering the United States through New York or New Jersey should follow CDC guidance here.
