Corporate comms for the startup soul • TechCrunch

Hello and welcome back to Equity, TechCrunch’s venture capital focused podcast where we unlock the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.

Today we have something a little different for you. In light of the never-ending Musk-Twitter saga and news that the new social media CEO has cut his corporate communications staff to the bone — and then some. So to get more perspective on the role the corporate governance team plays in both startups and public companies, we interviewed two people with that experience:

  • Kelly BoyntonSenior Director of Communications at Gusto
  • Keyanna CorlissUntil recently Head of International Relations and PR at Databricks

The pair discussed the role comms plays in companies, both internally and externally, and why it should be at the decision-making table. Given the media furor surrounding Musk himself, you can imagine we have a lot to talk about.

Oh, and Keyanna has a podcast that I was a guest on, in case you want to hear more from her! Normal service will return tomorrow!

Equity drops every Monday and Wednesday at 7am PT, and Fridays at 6pm PT, so subscribe to us. Apple Podcasts, Exaggerated, Spotify And All actors. TechCrunch has a great show on crypto, interviewing founders, detailing how our stories come together, and more!
