Elsa Hosk Fronts GCDS, Frame’s Fans, Doja Cat Dishes in CR Fashion Book – WWD

MUSES & BOOTS: Find a woman who can do both: be the creative director of a new label of timeless wardrobe staples and the face of a buzzy brand in an alluring ad campaign.

Following the launch of her brand Helsa in collaboration with Revolve Group last week, Elsa Hosk appears in new GCDS ads, which has identified the former Victoria’s Secret Angel as her sensual muse for Fall 2022.

In the role, Hosk joins the likes of Pamela Anderson, Caroline Vreeland and Élite star Arón Piper, all of whom have fronted campaigns for the iconic Italian brand in the past.

In the color images photographed by Pierre-Ange Carlotti and released on Tuesday, Hosk is portrayed wearing a hot pink mesh jacket and key accessories from the collection, ranging from fur boots and a pink logo hat to to striking vinyl thigh-high boots with fang-shaped heels. Called “Morso” or “Bite” in English, the latest style is undoubtedly the highlight of the season from the brand, having already created a buzz on social media when it was first unveiled on the GCDS runway in Milan in February.

At the time, the brand’s creative director Giuliano Calza elaborated on the inspiration behind the collection, revealing that he watched a lot of movies during the pandemic and that Bram Stoker’s 1992 film “Dracula” was among them. So he decided to reimagine the gothic tale and its costumes with his own fantasy, fetish-y twist, which led to edgy shoe styles nodding to vampire teeth, among other creations.

In keeping with the show and the collection, the ad campaign echoes the seasonal theme on some props as well. This includes a bed vaguely reminiscent of Dracula’s coffin, where Hosk lies next to the new GCDS “Press” bag, a moniker inspired by the design’s curved asymmetrical crash.

Shot in Paris, the images also offer a generous dose of glossy beauty. Conceived by makeup artist Masae Ito and hair stylist Tomohiro Ohashi, these range from Old Hollywood makeup and hair waves to pop eye makeup suitable for Gen Z, combining neon yellow and hot pink outfits.

Coincidentally, GCDS debuted a makeup line, developed by Intercos, in 2018, when it also introduced children’s clothing. The following year, the company further expanded its offering by signing a five-year license with Marcolin for the global production and distribution of eyewear.

As reported, earlier this year Calza presented a capsule collection with Wolford. Other collaborations have ranged from Barilla to Bratz, and all have respected the fun and pop ethos of GCDS.

An acronym for “God Can’t Destroy Streetwear,” GCDS was founded by Calza and his brother Giordano in 2015. Debuted as a digital project, it evolved into a fashion company, with its first runway show held at June 2016 in Milan. In late 2020, Italian private equity firm Made in Italy Fund, managed by Quadrivio and Pambianco, acquired a majority stake in the label. – SANDRA SALIBIAN

A PRACTICE OF PARIS: Frame flew his cast of friends and family to Paris a few weeks early on Sunday night. The brand was enjoying the second point of its collaboration with Ritz Paris with a dinner at The Nines and had completely transformed the restaurant for the occasion. A luggage cart waited beneath the Ritz Paris x Frame awning on the sidewalk, and the immersion continued at the entrance, with guests picking up a key chain from the “hotel lobby” bell.

“I did a little thing with The Carlyle when I moved to New York and was living downtown, and then Camilla Fayed, who’s a friend of mine and owns the Ritz Paris, was like ‘why didn’t you call me beeeep?’ And I was like, I’m so humbled to call you because you’re the biggest brand in the world. She said let’s do something together and let’s have fun together,” Torstensson explained as Frame’s first capsule collaborator – Karlie Kloss – posed nearby. “Everyone wants a strategic answer, but I believe that everything about collaborations that are great happens when friends have fun together,” he added.

Inside, the dining room was buzzing with the usual crowd of Frame friends: there was Justin Theroux (a partner in The Nine) chatting with Mel Ottenberg at the long bar as Colin Field, head bartender at Bar Hemingway at the Ritz. Paris, drink orders; Frame co-founder Jens Grede and event co-hosts Derek Blasberg and Camilla Fayed were making the rounds, catching up with guests including Imaan Hammam — who created a capsule collection with the brand in 2020 — Cindy Bruna, Jasmine Sanders, James Charles, Nicole Richie and Noah. “In a world where everything is too big and too corporate, I think people feel when it’s true,” Torstensson said. “We never pay anyone to come to our parties, it’s very organic – that’s my family.” The family metaphor was literal; his stepdaughter Isabella Massenet DJed the after party downstairs at Acme.

This issue is themed “Front Row” and takes an irreverent approach to the frenetic energy, work and creativity required to navigate Fashion Month.

In this issue, Doja Cat is interviewed by Matthew Williams, creative director at Givenchy.

In discussing her evolving style on stage, Doja Cat tells Williams, “I’m just so beat up all the time, like I’m always stuck in my face and my head. And wearing things that are so tight and so heavy and devastating, so I’d like to find a way to be more casual about that. And if I’m going to do heavy and destructive things, I’m just going to go further.”

There are several editions of the issue that each have different covers. Other top models on the cover are Mariacarla Boscono, Abby Champion, Rayssa Mederos and Lina Werner, among others.

TOMMY’S TROOPS: If ever there was a valid excuse to stay home and sit out a fashion show, it would have been Sunday night’s conditions: not only was it raining during the evening, but Tommy’s venue Hilfiger was open. air seat, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, at that. The VIP views didn’t stop at the front row. Hilfiger tapped several familiar faces to walk the show, including Julia Fox, Amelia Grey, Hari Nef, Duckie Thot, Alton Mason, Winnie Harlow, Paloma Elsesser, Precious Lee and Bob Colacello. The show ended with a surprise performance as well, as Mason was stopped by Travis Barker on his final walk, led to the stage, and Barker treated the audience to a live set while the models did their final lap.

Hilfiger’s front row was one of the most famous of the week, which is saying something considering the number of celebrities who have returned to New York Fashion Week. Friday night’s Fendi show saw Kate Moss, Shalom Harlow, Christy Turlington Burns, Kim Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker and more on the front row, while Saturday’s Marni show hosted Madonna, Kendall Jenner and Devin Booker. – LEIGH NORDSTROM
