If you’re surprised by the semi-unexpected appearance of Pumpkin Spice Lattes, don’t be. Although summer technically ends on September 21st, people begin the funeral season when August ends.

While the temperature is still 88 degrees and drowned, people are switching to hot lattes and sweaters. That’s the way the brain works, I guess. We force fall too early until we realize we want summer back.

Everyone tells me that their “unpopular opinion” is that they prefer winter/fall clothing over summer. Revolutionary. No, duh – it is so much easier to sport with baggy, oversized sweaters than a pair of pink shorts.

The trend over the past year has been everything broad. Billie Eilish, if you will – AKA, clothes don’t stick to any part of your body. Summer naturally throws a wrench into all of this as clothes are smaller and your patience is a little thinner.

But since everyone seems to be “over” summer — which no doubt everyone will deny ever saying in two months — I’ve been eagerly anticipating fall’s new fashion trends. 2022 has seen its fair share of recycled trends: Y2K returned with a vengeance, and low-rise pants, cargo pants, baby t-shirts and trucker hats flooded the streets. 70s jeans and crocheted numbers are also back in the limelight after a 50-year hiatus.

This fall, we’re going back in time again. 2006 to be exact. That’s right, Birkenstocks are back. In fact, everything you’d expect your 2000 self to wear is about to grace stores near you.

If you’re looking to get ahead of your TikTok FYP, look no further. Get ready, ladies and gentlemen, here’s some 2022 fall fashion trends that have slowly passed by me.

1. Birkenstocks are back

Birkenstock

I had a pair of Birks for every mood in elementary school. And believe me, there was a lot of humor. Clogs are especially trendy right now, so can I recommend it Boston Suede?

Style your Birks with a tennis skirt and sweater for a fun twist on a timeless classic.

2. UGG’s Everywhere

UGG Australia

2006 called and they want their style back. While I’m sure we’ll see the all-height trend, let’s stick to the one that started it all: the mini. Uggs can be a bit…ugly…so the mini boot is the least offensive option from a surface perspective.

When following trends that may emerge like Uggs, you want to choose a style that you will wear even when you may not The thing to do. Mini Uggs are great for keeping your feet warm without suffocating the rest of your feet.

Wear your mini Uggs with your favorite leggings and a sweatshirt for the warmest fall outfit.

3. Metallics are coming

Schemes

I should have known when Kim Kardashian released metal Schemes this summer we had set out for one Zeno moment. Metallic is coming back in full force and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

Taking notes from her sister, Good American also just dropped Metallic jeans which will surely appear more and more this season.

Style these with a black turtleneck and black platform boots for a dramatic twist on a classic fit.

4. Horse style

Urban equipment

We needed a new preppy style recycle before the end of the year! No more collegiate sweaters, we’re going with dressy jackets and boots. Live outside Gossip girl the style of your dreams while pretending you have to go see your horses at any hour.

Riding boots are the main event this autumn with a special movement for cowboy boots as well. So dig out your old pairs from the depths of your closet and let’s ride.

Wear your riding boots with an oxford shirt under an oversized cable knit sweater and leggings for a chic fall look.

5. Packages and loads

Free people

Cargo pants make me think of Avril Lavigne and the pop princesses of the 2000s. The return of the low rise showed us the beauty of cargo – you can have your luggage without losing your shape.

And with the aforementioned return of Birkenstocks, clogs shouldn’t surprise you. A pair of platform clogs are great for work and play. Rubin Platform Mules from Free people it’s the perfect fall shoe that will become a staple in your closet.

Pair the low-tops with platform sandals, a tee and a leather jacket for your night on the town.

If you want to be ahead of the trends before the whole TikTok thing destroys online stores, follow my advice. Fall 2022 fashion is looking a little familiar…
