BENGALURU: Everything 90s is making a comeback. Yes, when it comes to trends, the 90s are the moment. Being a child of the 90s felt like the world belonged to you. Growing up in the revolutionary decade was bold, fun and easy.
We would ride our bikes or sometimes our dad would drop us off at school with our cool Walkman, listening to the numbers of iconic fashion and music influencers (pop stars). The fashion we had was also easy, Avril Lavigne’s anti-fut tops and jeans were my go-to clothes for college for the ease and style it brought to the life of a teenager.
Kate Moss’s iconic see-through dress had made such an impact on me growing up that my first college wardrobe purchase with my dad was two sheer tops. And more style inspirations were drawn from movies like Clueless and pop stars like the Spice Girls.
There were leather chokers, headbands and more. The moment I saw my teenage child wearing these t-shirts with extra wide leg pants, I couldn’t stop the spontaneous smile from escaping my lips. I found myself traveling through time and that too at jet speed (I really wish we could travel the streets of Bangalore in a similar way…) On that note, let’s look at the 90s trends that are making a comeback.
- Cropped tops, fitted versions of t-shirts paired with slacks or loose fitting denim are sure to be huge among teenagers.
- Midi dresses to show off a tailored silhouette are huge this season. So for those who couldn’t live it up then, here’s your chance to make a style statement with a slightly different aesthetic this time around. You can take a tie and dye print to bring innovation.
- The 90s were big on hair accessories (I remember carrying a whole load of them for a school trip, I probably always had more accessories than clothes). So yes, headbands, whether sporty or chunky, are big again.
- Slip ons are trending again this time and it’s not just the sports brands, but also the iconic fashion brands that are into the sporty style. It’s all about the cozy and cool vibes of the college.
- High-waisted mom jeans are a flattering street style look. Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been seen with this look many times these days.
- Combat boots were big back then and are making a comeback on the fashion scene. Recently I was shopping with my daughter in a mall in Delhi and we were both mesmerized by her looks and we both loved her. Eventually, of course, she got it and I sadly lost it due to the argument that I already wore them in my teenage years.
- Bucket hats have a certain way about them, whether you like them or not. They’re back and college students love them because you’re sun-saving, cool while looking cool.
- A fanny pack is convenient, versatile, and since it’s back in fashion, why not be comfortable
- while looking stylish. It is sported by all the style bloggers today. It makes a staple for college kids and women alike.
- Tracksuits/shorts are huge this season.
College visas have always been the beginning of any street fashion, paving the way for the transformation of designers
the same in dress or ramp trend for stylish women of all ages and ethnicities. As for today’s kids, carve out a niche in what you do, live a life like no one else, make a statement or chill in your comfort zone while being isolated (that’s mostly the school kids of the Covid Gen).
