Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Kirk McGowan has been cut by the Washington Chiefs

It’s cut day in the NFL and unfortunately, a few former Georgia Tech football stars didn’t make the final roster for some teams. One of those guys is former wide receiver Kyrick McGowan, a former transfer from Northwestern.

McGowan signed with the Washington Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the draft, hoping to land one of the final roster spots. The Chiefs prioritized wide receiver this offseason and added some newcomers in the draft.

McGowan isn’t the biggest receiver at 5-11 200 LBS, but he’s an accurate route runner and quick space. He spent the first few seasons of his college career playing for Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern. During his time with the Wildcats, McGowan caught 66 balls for 773 yards and two touchdowns. He then transferred to Georgia Tech, where he would have a career season

In the year In 2021, McGowan had 37 catches for 467 yards and seven touchdowns. One thing that impressed the receiver in his lone season with Georgia Tech was that they didn’t give him a chance to run the ball on offense. Northwestern made him a core part of the offense and that was something Georgia Tech didn’t do.

Hopefully, McGowan will land somewhere, probably on the practice squad, and start working his way onto an NFL roster.
