The plates – When all five starters return from a team that finished 12Th During last spring’s NCAA Championships, the Georgia Tech golf team was ranked the 4th-best team in the nation by GolfWeek magazine’s preseason rankings.
All five players — seniors — started for the Yellow Jackets last spring and helped Tech win five games. Bartley Forrester (Gainesville, Ga.)., Connor Howe (Ogden, Utah) And Ross Stillman (Columbia, Mo.Jr Christo Lamprecht (George, South Africa) And second Benjamin Reuter (Narden, Netherlands) Return to compete in 2022-23. Among the top 100 players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, all but Reuter, Forster, Howe and Lamprecht made the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team.
The Yellow Jackets won the Maui Gym Intercollegiate and the Hamptons Intercollegiate in the fall, and added titles at the Watersound Invitational and Khalsa Cup in the spring, beating Oklahoma State for the NCAA regional title. At the ACC Championship, Tech finished second in stroke play and advanced to the championship match, falling to Wake Forest 3-2. The final and the singles match reached 21St Well, where Reuter lost to Alex Fitzpatrick.
The Tech quintet notched 20 top-10 finishes between them, while Forster, Lamprecht and Stillman each advanced to compete at the US Amateur Championship in August.
According to Golf Week: “Georgia Tech had a loaded team that couldn’t do anything a few years ago. Coach Bruce Hepler brought back five starters this season and has another shot at the Greyhawks and the NCAA Championship, so don’t be surprised to see the Yellow Jackets in the playoffs next spring.
The magazine ranked Vanderbilt No. 1, ahead of North Carolina and Florida ahead of the Yellow Jackets. The Commodores and Tar Heels each advanced to the playoffs last spring, while the Gators tied for 10.Th place. The remaining 10 include, in order, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Illinois, Oklahoma and NCAA champion Texas.
Tech begins the 2022 fall season Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz., looking to return to the NCAA Championship for the fifth time and first since 2014.
