ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) — Georgia Tech school officials say more female students, black and Hispanic students, more first-generation students and more Pell Grant-eligible students have completed their rigorous admissions process than ever before at Georgia Tech. History.
“A lot of the reason we’re setting records in all these demographic groups is we’re growing like never before,” said Rick Clark with the George Institute of Technology.
School officials say they are trying to make a Georgia Tech education more accessible.
“This is a pipeline effect, no doubt, it’s not just a coincidence,” Clarke said.
Years ago, Georgia Tech began working with schools and communities to inspire kids to get into STEM.
“For example, CEISMC is our main K-12 provider in our city and state and has been for decades,” Clark said, “and it’s teacher training, helping students understand what some of these degrees are.”
He said the school is committed to building bridges for students from all walks of life to further progress.
“Employers are looking for a variety of skills, and they’re coming to Georgia Tech for that,” Clark said.
