Laredo, Webb County is well positioned for continued economic expansion

Governor Greg Abbott today congratulated the Laredo Economic Development Corporation (EDC) on its strong track record of expanding and relocating Laredo and Webb County companies by 2021, attracting new jobs and nearly $50 million in capital investments.

“Texas continues to attract new jobs, new businesses and new investments, and as a result, more Texans are working than ever before in our state’s history,” said Governor Abbott. “Critical to that growth is our 20-year top export state and nine-year dominance in global trade in technology exports. The Port of Laredo, with its strategic location, is the No. 1 location along the U.S.-Mexico border with over $248.5 billion in exports by 2021.” It’s an inland port. We want to thank our local, regional and state economic development partners for their commitment to attracting, retaining and growing jobs in South Texas and this great state. Working together, we’ll keep Texas the best state to live, work, build a business and raise a family.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Abbott at the Laredo EDC 29th Annual Business Symposium, Adriana Cruz, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism, highlighted the region’s significant contribution to our region’s economy. “The Laredo community supports the Lone Star State as an economic powerhouse,” said Executive Director Cruz. “Not only is Laredo one of the top cities in the country to start a business, it also serves as a gateway to international trade from Mexico and beyond.”
