Harlem’s Fashion Row x LVMH Create Award Virgil Abloh


Last year, Virgil Abloh’s sudden death came as a shock to many around the world. Since his untimely death, the industry has continued to ensure that his legacy lives on with various tributes. This year, Harlem’s Fashion Row is partnering with him LVMH to create the Virgil Abloh Award in honor of the late innovator.

2022 marks the New York-based fashion organization’s 15th anniversary show and awards. The new award will be presented by Abloh’s wife, Shannon Abloh, as an addition to the annual showcase of Black-owned brands. According to Fashion Business, the award “celebrates like-minded individuals who embody Virgil’s spirit, brilliance and vision through invaluable contributions to culture, community and innovation.” This year’s award recipients include actress Issa Rae, fashion writer Robin Givhan who is writing a book about the designer, womenswear designer Sergio Hudson, designer Ade Smuel and Janet Jackson, who will also be presented with the award ” Icon of the Year”.

Designers Clarence Ruth, Jonathan Hayden and Nicole Benefield will showcase their collection at Harlem’s Fashion Row’s 15th anniversary show.
