Home Depot takes up most of Fashion Square Mall

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Changes are coming to Fashion Square Mall in Albemarle County.

Home Depot recently purchased a large portion of the mall.

“The Home Depot closed on the property on the first of this month. They bought the entire center minus the JCPenney location and the Belk women’s location,” manager Athena Emmans said Wednesday, Sept. 14.

There are still many questions about what, when and how Home Depot will come in and use the property.

“We don’t really have a timeline. I mean, this whole thing is pretty new to the process, there’s a lot of moving parts and a lot of people communicating,” Emmans said.

Emmans says the stores that were already there can stay for now.

“We notified the tenant in the first month that Home Depot now owns the center. Nothing is really changing with them, their rents will continue as before. So there’s really no concern there, and like I said, more tenants will come in,” she said.

Belk says it has no plans to leave its Fashion Square location.

The old JCPenney location is currently being leased by Albemarle County.
