The Marc Jacobs Heaven Party, a New York Fashion Week themed party at Elsewhere celebrating the designer’s affordable, cool kids’ line, felt like a raucous convention, sponsored by Pzaz Energy Mist, packed with laser light for internet celebrity and real celebrity. The choice of location, Bushwick’s half-sized nightclub, was a stroke of genius.
Heaven, launched by Jacobs in 2020, is a polysexual line of ’90s children’s cans: oversized sweaters with a drowned pearl design; Hip-hugger cargo miniskirts, etc. The new collection’s campaign, featuring Doja Cat, Charli XCX and Pamela Anderson, features the stars rocking ensembles that would look perfectly at home in Crazy City’s “Butterfly” video.
On Saturday night, the excitement was palpable upon arrival: a tall kid in his early 20s was strutting around, yelling to everyone in line who would listen that he was on the list. He claimed he was DJing later and texted Mark, who personally said he could come in. The door boys were adamant. “They should let me in,” said another girl, shoving her phone in her friend’s face. “I have 20 thousand followers on Instagram!”
Opener Yaeji serenaded the crowd with a short breakbeat set. Charli XCX, aka the Madonna of Bushwick, then took to the stage with giant orange and black teased hair to belt out ‘Vroom Vroom’ and ‘Boys’ with ease before garage revivalist PinkPantheress cruised through songs of its most popular.
Then things started to go off the rails. As the crowd filled with beautiful influencers grew increasingly drunk, Doja Cat’s stage time descended into chaos almost as soon as it began, due, she said, to the fact that she and her team had been sent the wrong tracks. “I’d like to take a poll on Twitter and give everyone what they wanted,” she said sadly, also admitting she hadn’t rehearsed in months. Locked in the VIP booth, Charli XCX looked shocked into silence.
In between multiple starts and stops, Doja played classics like “Pretty Rave Girl” and apologized repeatedly, but eventually blurted out: “You wanna do ‘Get Into it (Yuh)’ and just get out of here?” The crowd cheered.
By the time Canadian phenom Kaytranada got behind the tables, all bets were off: a blonde girl in a thong with a whale’s tail came on stage twice and was forced to be confined to a corner by security guards.
Amid the confusion, the night had a clear climax: “Welcome to New York!” English transplant PinkPantheress screamed as “Just for Me” began to play. “I love Taylor Swift.”

Sergio Hudson’s latest collection falls in the third year he’s presented at New York Fashion Week, and in that short time frame, the bold and vibrant sensibility of Hudson’s statement suits and matching belted coats Michelle Obama and Kendall Jenner alike have caught the eye of the CEO. Hudson’s latest collection is an exercise in the ’80s supermodel, from olive green minidresses to teased onesies.
The designer was clearly more inspired by the power suit, however: the pointed shoulder padding, standout jackets and subtly flared trousers in a range of jewel tones would have looked just as fitting on Ashley Darby, a cast member from the Real Housewives of Potomac who happened to be in the audience, or one of the dozens of anatomically perfect TikTok “creators” who were being animatedly constructed while we lined up to take our seats. Private Policy presented a collection that was so many things to so many different groups of people. The brand has shifted its focus towards gender fluidity, which was evidenced by the silhouettes of hoodies and T-shirts that easily translate to either men, women or non-binary models. This season, they also featured a plus size model on their runways. Their commitment to gender fluidity could not have been better evidenced than by a post-runway finale performance by RuPaul’s Drag Race Thailand star Pangina Heals.
