Have you ever thought you could look classy, sophisticated and luxurious by shopping at a thrift store?
Style expert and fashion influencer Jake Flem told his followers that it’s more than possible to look expensive using second-hand clothes.
Jake uses his TikTok account to help his followers know how to dress for any occasion, whether it’s a summer trip to Europe or a casual stroll around New York.
His followers spam every comment section asking for a new styling video.
Finally he posted a video answering his most asked question: how can you look expensive on a budget?
Jake gives eight tips.
“Go for affordable structured pieces,” he begins.
His sample photo includes a woman wearing baggy jeans with a smooth linen button-down.
Using some structured pieces and whatever you have in your closet, Jake says to start learning how to layer.
“When you look like you know how to dress yourself, you automatically look expensive,” he emphasizes
The basics are necessary, and they can be found affordably.
According to Jake, you can use hammy downs, thrift, or easily find other types of second hand options.
“These basics are essential because they can be worn with tons of different outfits. You’re saving money by not having to buy new pieces for every outfit,” he says.
The fabric of your clothes matters, as does the silhouette they give you.
“You know in your head what looks expensive. Look for blazers, pants and things that just make you look sophisticated,” suggests Jake.
Again, all of these items can be saved.
Buying trendy clothes not only hurts your bank account, but Jake believes they don’t do much to make you look lush.
Because items are in fashion, countries tend to raise their prices.
“You don’t need to have an abundance of clothes. Buy fewer clothes, but they are of good quality,” he suggests.
He also added: “Also! Find pieces that are unique! I find so many dope pieces for under $30 on Depop and Poshmark! Use specific keywords to find items like this.”
Viewers were relieved and thankful that he finally posted these tips.
“Your account is the only fashion advice I’ll ever need,” wrote one loyal follower, while another commented: “This is amazing advice because I’m helpless.”
