Jackets down Gamecocks in exhibition, 4-1 – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets


Columbia, SC – No. 9 Georgia Tech volleyball defeated South Carolina 4-1 on the road in the Jackets’ final preseason contest on Sunday.

Overall, the White and Gold were dominant on offense, with 20 or more kills (63-43) and assists (61-39) favoring the Gamecocks. Also leading in hitting percentage and digs, Tech held South Carolina to a .095 hitting percentage on the day.

The Gamecocks had no answer for the top middle blockers. Erin MossHe led the Jacket offense with a match-high 20 kills at a .548 clip on defense to go along with six total blocks. Along with Moss, Lightning was a top outside hitter. Julia BergmanShe recorded a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 18 digs. Junior set Bella D’Amico He orchestrated the offense for the first three sets, dishing out a match-high 34 assists and serving as a senior libero. Paula Pimentel He led the day with 22 digs.

The Jackets took care of business early, outscoring the Gamecocks by 19 total points to sweep the first three sets and win the match. Tech took the first and second sets by 25-20 scorelines, using three of four runs to take advantage in set one and putting together an 11-2 stretch to cruise to victory in set two. In the third set of the title, an early six-point run capped the White and Gold’s late five-point stretch for a three-set 25-16 win. Following the decisive third set, South Carolina won set 4 25-16. The Yellow Jackets went on a 5-1 run to win the game 15-10 and take the series 4-1.
