Metro Tech students bring home the gold
Students from Metro Technology Centers recently won several awards at the 2022 Health Professionals of the Future (HOSA) International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Six students competed in three categories: Nursing Assistant, Creative Problem Solving and Healthcare Photography. All six students were placed in their respective events.
Winners include:
- Brenna Skye, A post-secondary practical nurse student, won a bronze in nursing assistant preparation.
- Haley Payne, Kelly Addis, Kayla McNack And Jamie Wehrenberg, Post-secondary practical nursing students, won gold in the creative problem-solving event.
- Melissa Rivera, A post-secondary medical assistant student, he won gold in the healthcare photography event.
Also recognized. Samir Elnezer, A graduate of Metro Tech’s Radiologic Technology program, as an Alumnus of the Best Hossa-Future Health Professionals.
Metro Tech Practical Nursing Instructor Tonja Truitt said this achievement is a testament to the hard work of the students and the support from the institution.
OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center has announced the recipients of the Seed Grant Program
The TSET Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) Seed Grant Program at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center recently announced the awardees. Each grantee will receive up to $50,000 for their research project.
Winners include:
- Dr. Amy Kohn, An associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma and an HPRC researcher, was awarded a grant for her project “Time-Sensitive Drug Abuse Research: Assessing the Effects of Medical Marijuana Legalization on Cannabis Attitudes, Drug Use.” Behaviors and health outcomes in Oklahomans.
- Dr. Jason Oliver, An assistant professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the OU College of Medicine and an HPRC researcher, was awarded a grant for the project “Translational Research on Beta-Adrenergic Drugs as Smoking Cessation Agents: A Trial Efficacy Study with Mechanistic Results.”
- Dr. Ashley Brown, An assistant professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Oklahoma State University, she was awarded a grant for her project titled “Exploring Hidden Drivers of Ultra-Processed Food Consumption by Weight Status and Retail Exposure.”

Hearing aid winner announced
The Central Oklahoma Chapter of the American Hearing Loss Association has announced the 2022 hearing aid award winners.
Kelly Miles, A retired physician and resident of Oklahoma City, he is a champion of ReSound hearing aids.
Dr. Pam Matthews, owner of Pro Trials, provided the appropriate fee and consultation.
