Tech titan Microsoft and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) announced on Wednesday that they have partnered to increase access to skills for jobs through Cyber Shiksha and Redi 4 Cyber Security programmes.
Nearly 3,500 students have received training and will receive internships or job opportunities for in-demand cybersecurity jobs.
NIELIT and Microsoft will deploy CyberShiksha and Redi4Cybersecurity programs at 30 NIELIT training centers in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with a special focus on Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the states of North-East region of India.
NIELIT and Microsoft have partnered to train youth in cyber security skills for employment, he said, adding that these programs will work to integrate cyber security training programs in all NIELIT training centers in the coming years.
The global cybersecurity skills gap and lack of workforce diversity are among the most pressing issues facing the digital economy.
The collaboration between Neelit and Microsoft will help to reduce the skills gap of cyber security professionals and create job opportunities for 1,100 youth during the pilot year of deployment, the statement said.
It is also said that around 3,500 students will be trained and get job opportunities for cyber security jobs.
In addition to providing support for training, Microsoft support includes curriculum content, certifications, and consulting opportunities.
As a premier testing and certification institute in the field of Information, Electronics and Communication Technology, NEELIT aims to produce skilled professionals and support students and trainers through curriculum design and content acquisition.
The development comes amid Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella’s visit to India.
Nadella, who is on a four-day multi-city visit, was in Mumbai on Tuesday and Delhi on Wednesday. He is also scheduled to visit Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
On Wednesday, Nadella called on Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Minister invited the Microsoft CEO to invest in India’s growing innovation and startup ecosystem.
