Since its inception, it has generated about $1 million in revenue. And while its initial focus was on working parents, it has expanded its scope to help all types of caregivers, regardless of gender. Now, to further extend its reach, Mother Faithful is launching a new business offering on TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield.

Adesian gave birth to her first child while in college and remembers taking her son to an internship at a multinational corporation. After graduating, she immediately started working with Fortune 100 companies. PepsiCo, DuPont, BASF and Cargill. After entering work, she threw herself into her career while managing her caregiving responsibilities, and at first it was “unprepared” for her – “a single mother, a black woman who wants to continue as a chemical engineer. Ambitious.”

She knew she wasn’t the only working mom who felt that way, so she created several Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at companies around parenting and caregiving. Adesian, who was a little nervous about her first move into the corporate world, said that if her career wasn’t “solid,” she was “scared of having more kids.” She finally gave birth to her second child nine years after her first.

All the feelings she had when she started her career started to come back – the recognition of the lack of reliable and affordable care infrastructure, the lack of support from her supervisors and the fact that she had to spend a little money to fly her parents back and forth from Nigeria. Take care of her children while she goes to work.

“Eventually I ran out of money, and I couldn’t afford to fly them back and forth,” Adesian recalls.

The straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak, was when she consulted for a large chemical company and was asked to go to Morocco. She called her then-boss to ask if the company would pay her to meet some of her caregiving obligations.

Her boss’s response, Adesian told TechCrunch, shocked her.

“He told me it was important to separate my professional and personal life, and a male colleague had been doing this for 10 years and never asked for this kind of support,” she said. “So, ‘No offense, my co-worker is a white guy with a stay-at-home wife who pays for his care.'”

Two weeks later, Adesian found another job, but she was still angry that she was making “millions of dollars” for a company.

She added, “I left my country for two weeks at a time, and I was a single mother, a migrant with no support network.”

Frustrated, Adesian turned to Instagram to ask how others were juggling work and family.

“People started sending DMs and videos, and within three months they had about 10,000 followers,” recalls Adesian. That turned out to be a conference in Detroit with hundreds of attendees from all over the country.

And in the year In 2018, a start-up was born that My Mother Faithful – Adesian is a “sometime foreign ERG”. The website was originally developed to provide content and community for caregivers in need of support.

“I wanted to support mothers in balancing their careers and personal lives, and I wanted them to do so honestly without exposing themselves to others,” she recalls. “It became clear that only a parent could realistically solve this problem. So I like to think of our product as ‘Made by moms for everyone’.”

In the year In 2020, Adesian left her engineering career to focus full time on her career.

Current clients include Indeed, Care.com, Splendid Spoon, Bobbie, Nait and more. Past clients include Lincoln, Google, JP Morgan Chase, Bright Horizons, Pacira and others.

Loaded since its inception, Mother’s Honesty has so far been primarily cash-strapped. Brand partnerships like Indeed, Care.com and Splendid Spoon, doing things like co-creating content for staff caregivers.

The natural evolution of Mother’s Honesty, which Adesiyan believes is missing, but crucially led to the creation of something desirable in the workforce: the work-life bag.

Mother Faithful makes money by charging a fee to provide employees with wallets to spend on things like care or medical travel. Mother acts as a fiduciary broker, denying expenses or based on predetermined categories so that employees have privacy and do not disclose personal details to their employers.

A dream come true for Adesian’s widespread adoption.
