Phoenix brings 4th Friday business to downtown Burlington

Live music, a K-9 display and more were a busy scene for the annual Phoenix Fourth Friday event held at Burlington’s Historic Depot downtown, a partnership between the Burlington Recreation and Parks Department and the Burlington Downtown Corporation.

As Burlington last Fourth Friday celebration During the summer, this marks the only event held while Elon classes are in session.

Elon University sophomore Lucy Horne said events like this are important to connecting the Elon and Burlington communities. At the event, she introduced her wares at Lucy Lucy.

“Sometimes when we’re at Elon, I feel like we’re separate from the rest of the community, but being here brings the students and the community together, which I think is great,” Horn said.

Junior Tessa Gladwell works at Tanner’s Wine Bar in downtown Burlington, and from her experience, many Elon students know what’s going on downtown.

“There aren’t many students at Elon who know much about downtown Burlington, so combining the two gives that new demographic a chance to see all the businesses and what they have to offer,” Gladwell said. .

Friday was the last Fourth to close this summer, but Elon is set to partner with downtown again next year.
