GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer will travel to Wilmington, N.C. on Thursday for a matchup with the UNCW Seahawks. The game is set for 7 p.m. and will be available streaming on FloSports ($).

Last Time Out

The Pirates earned a second-straight win with a 3-0 defeat of the Old Dominion Monarchs. Abby OwlIsabella Gutierrez and Sydney Fast all scored their first career goals in the win. Schnell added an assist to the Gutiérrez goal. The shutout was the second consecutive as well and gave keeper Maeve English her eighth career clean sheet.

Scouting the Seahawks

UNCW enters the game with a 2-1-1 record against a challenging schedule. Wins against Queens and Coastal Carolina go with a draw with VCU and an impressively close 2-0 defeated at the venerable Dorrance Field against North Carolina. Five players have scored goals for the Seahawks this season, led by Talia Parrous with five points total on two goals and an assist.

11-4-1 last season, the Seahawks will look to recreate their success, but to finish the job and win the CAA this season after a 1-0 loss in the semifinals a year ago.

Series History

East Carolina and UNCW have met 23 times throughout their histories. The first meeting in the series came in the inaugural 1994 season for ECU, a 3-2 win. Most recently the teams met during the 2017 season with the Pirates coming up with a 3-0 win. ECU leads the all-time series 14-7-2 but in Wilmington, the series has been closer with a 4-3-1 edge for the Seahawks.

Quotable

“After two very good performances at home this past week, we are excited to hit the road for our next 3 games,” said Head Coach Gary Higgins. “First up is a very organized and well coached, UNCW team.

“I have been very pleased with how we have played on the front foot the past couple of games and really imposed ourselves on some strong opposition. We will need to be very aggressive on Thursday night. We will have to earn the right to play, and we understand that UNCW will be looking to protect their home field with everything they have. We are excited to test ourselves in a tough environment and we look forward to continuing our growth as a team. Thanks and Go Pirates!”
