Sepura Home has raised $3.7 million to compost your kitchen

Here’s some smart new kitchen technology. Victoria, BC firm Sepura recently introduced its popular appliance, which sits under the sink in place of a garbage disposal. There is a Bluetooth button that can be stuck anywhere near the sink. The system itself is placed under the sink and is designed to fit directly into the drain.

When enough food has accumulated under the drain, press the button and a process will begin that will feed the waste into the device. In an introductory video, co-founder and CEO Viktor Nikolov is quick to point out that the system does not digest food waste unlike traditional waste disposal. “We found it better to keep things. [intact]. We’ve found it better to keep our planet from smashing things down our drains.

The system has a barrier to prevent water from entering the container, which allows it to flow out of the pipe first. It will also stop if it detects something you don’t want in the compost bucket, such as an item.

The company announced today that it has closed a $3.7 million seed round designed to accelerate production and delivery of the $700,000 product when it begins shipping in July. The round was directed, of course, by the syncretic Blanco.

“Cepura represents a major step forward in sustainable living. Through its technology and user-friendly design, Cepura offers a simple and effective way to reduce waste and promote a cleaner, healthier environment,” Nikolov said in the release.

The company says the system “can effectively separate 99.9% of solid waste down the drain.”
