USA, Ga (WALB) – Following This week’s loan forgiveness announcement, South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) officials say it’s important to consider other options besides taking out loans for further education.

There are other courses available than a traditional four-year school or technical school.

SGTC prides itself on not offering loans – this is because most students who qualify for a federal Pell Grant cover most of their expenses.

“I will use an example of one of our teachers who started here in that situation. She was safe and came here. Long story short, she finished her career in aviation maintenance, went to work at Robbins Air Force Base, got six or seven years of experience and went back to teaching,” said John Watford, president of South Georgia Technical College.

Watford says this is a new focus for the college.

“Our mission is workforce development, and we know not to sadden students with debt,” Watford said.
