Yorkbauer previously rose to the top as CEO of Seattle-based MoxyWorks, which operates a platform for real estate brokerages. Last week he returned to the bottom – in a unique fashion.
In a race to honor the company’s philanthropic efforts, Baur paid employees for challenges during the fundraiser and ended up raising another $7,000, just short of the $25,000 goal.
From the roof of 1000 Second Avenue, where MoxiWorks offices are located, Baur — dressed in a cloud-patterned suit on a blue-sky day — climbed 40 stories, or 500 feet, back to street level. They passed by waving and cheering to the staff who were safely seated behind glass on the 13th floor of the corridor.
In a post on LinkedIn on Thursday, Baur said the focus on the Moxy Fund’s philanthropic efforts, where employees raise money to give back to housing-related charities, was a major reason for the boldness. But he also said that he tried to overcome his natural fear and develop himself by doing things he had never done before.
“I firmly believe that fear is the enemy of growth and opportunity,” Baur wrote. “Is it uncomfortable to do? … Yes. But even the biggest threat can be overcome with preparation, coaching, information and teamwork,” he said.
