Tech freshman Lauren Zaretsky opened with a round of 68 in the CP Women’s Open Shootout


Ottawa – Incoming Texas Tech women’s golfer and Canadian native Lauren Zaretsky shot an opening round 68 during the opening round of the LPGA’s CP Women’s Open hosted by the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club.

She started her round at the 2021 Canadian Women’s Championship with a birdie on the 10th hole. After missing a pair of shots on the 12th, Zaretsky recorded a pair of birdies on the third, 13th and 15th holes to move to -1 for the championship.

With her only bogey of the round at the 16th, the Canadian made back-to-back shots to make it 35 for the tournament.

Zaretsky started the bogey-free back-nine with a birdie on the par-four first hole. After three straight pars, the freshman made the most important shot of the day when she registered an ace on the par three fifth.

Zaretsky shot four straight to end the round, finishing with an opening round 68.

The freshman is tied for 19th, just three shots behind leader Emma Talley, who carded a back-nine 29 for a round of 65.
