NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KLTV) – A Texas Tech University representative said the school is open to the idea of bringing Stephen F. Austin to their university system.
“Stephen F. Austin State University is an outstanding institution of higher education in Texas and will be an excellent addition to the Texas Tech University system. We believe that their values, established culture and rich and respected traditions are closely aligned with our systems and corporate institutions. “We appreciate the SFA Board of Regents and university leadership having these thoughtful discussions about the next chapter,” Scott Lacefield, Texas Tech University’s executive director of media relations and communications, said in a statement.
Last week, Stephen F. Austin University leadership announced that several university systems are interested in making SFA an affiliated university. The seven university systems in Texas are the University of Houston, University of North Texas, University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, and Texas Women’s. Representatives for the University of Texas told us they have no comment yet. Other university systems had not responded as of press time.
In Lacefield’s statement, the Texas Tech chancellor himself is an SFA alumnus and said he is interested in starting a conversation about potential issues.
“The TTU System Board of Regents and Chancellor Ted L. Mitchell, MD – a proud SFA alumnus – look forward to the opportunity to discuss collaborative partnerships with SFA representatives. Our leadership is excited to learn more about the Lumberjack family and how the TTU System and its five constituent universities can support SFA’s future growth and success.” And we’re thrilled to share that they support it,” the statement said.
