Stars gathered to celebrate the last 12 months of music last night at the 2022 MTV VMAs, which this year were held in New Jersey. For a red carpet usually known for its colorful, whimsical brand of glitz and glamour, it was a monochrome affair, with many of the A-list attendees choosing to walk the red carpet in shades of black or nude.

But the sight was by no means boring. From Taylor Swift in glittering Oscar de la Renta, to the four stars of Blackpink in elegant haute couture looks and Lizzo bringing the drama in voluminous Jean Paul Gaultier fashion, here are our style highlights from the evening.

Taylor Swift brought a dose of glitz to this year’s MTV VMAs, wearing a nude Oscar de la Renta gown covered in beaded crystal strings.

Lizzo enlisted an army of assistants to help her navigate the red carpet in this voluminous Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown by Glenn Martens, which she styled with black gloves.

The model opted for a Houghton shift dress with a cutout bodice and strappy silver sandals.

Each member of Blackpink brought their VMAs style A-game in coordinating black outfits – with Lisa in Celine pants and a train; Jisoo in floral Dior; Jennie in a Chanel two piece; and Rosé in a Saint Laurent mini dress.

Lil Nas X arrived wearing a strong Harris Reed look consisting of a feathered cage skirt over pants and a matching headpiece.

Sofia Carson chose a Carolina Herrera hooded dress.

The actress walked the black carpet in a lace look by Fendi.

Dixie D’Amelio opted for a shimmering Alexandre Vauthier plunging neckline gown.

Dove Cameron wore a floral Rodarte dress with a cinched bodice and choker.
