After three years away from his home turf, Tommy Hilfiger is back at New York Fashion Week Fall 2022 Ready To Wear with an immersive, interactive show that serves as a reminder that this isn’t the Tommy Hilfiger of old. This is Tommy designing for tomorrow.

Not even the New York summer rain that forced the A-List front row, which included Shawn Mendes, Kourtney Kardashian and husband Travis Barker, Kate Moss and Kodak Black, to seek shelter under umbrellas, could dampen the buzz that had been created about the proverbial proverbial. the boy’s show.

Called Tommy Factory, a tribute to the great New York artist Andy Warhol and his collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to art, fashion and culture, the phygital show became an experiment of intersections: future and now, digital and physical, track and real. world. Guest-created AR balloons lit up the runway skyline as “metaverse creations interacted with IRL guests.”

But that was just the backdrop for a clothing collection that marks a new era for the brand.

Ivy league gear and urban Americana – Hilfiger has been able to adapt his brand to bridge the plurality of America’s fashion divide like no other. For Fall 2022, it becomes a pivot on which the 71-year-old designer tells a story about the way we dress – where leisure and luxury are not separated from formality.

There’s a joke that fashion is fleeting and style is eternal, but Hilfiger manages to fit both in one layer. Just as he bridges the divide between the youth audience that has made his clothing a streetwear staple and the high-end version that was introduced today.

Tailoring is back in the collection, easily combined with the casual codes that have marked the brand’s last decade. While it may be a while before we see sweatpants with a tie in the office, I’m willing to make it happen.

The classics have been modified – rugby shirts are elongated, puffer jackets even bigger, while jackets are oversized to emphasize a stripped effect. Colors remain bold, drawing inspiration from collegiate life – heritage green, burgundy, yellow and bright cobalt blue.

Woven throughout everything from knitwear to activewear was the new Tommy Hilfiger TH monogram, created in partnership with illustrator and graphic designer Fergus Purcell.

This is the second release in as many weeks for Hilfiger. The designer just a few days ago had unveiled a new collection in collaboration with Richard Quinn. The graphic collection also featured the new monogram, interspersed with an English rose and check motif. The collaboration, an upbeat collection that sounded like Carnaby Street in the 60s would be given a TikTok makeover, made a guest appearance at the end of the show.
