USD Celebrates ‘Knauss Business Day’ in San Diego

October 1, 2022, Knauss Business Day School Announced in City of San Diego, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria ’00 (BA)’s office announced last Saturday at a grand opening celebration for the Knauss Business Education Center.

“The mayor is a proud USD student and it was great to have him announce this as the Knauss Business Day School,” USAID President James T. Harris III, D.D., said after the event.

The evening ceremony featured several speeches, a spectacular laser light show on the facade of the building and tours of the new facility followed by the opening of the new home for the Knauss Business School. Ribbon cutting ceremony August 4. USD trustees, administrators, donors, community partners, representatives from the mayor’s office and of course Don and Ellie Knaus attended.

University of San Diego Board Chair Don Knauss, former CEO of Clorox, and his wife, Ellie, have donated $50 million to not only fund the new 120,000-square-foot building, but to name it the Knauss School of Business.

“Don and Ellie, we are honored to have the Knauss name on this beautiful new building as well as on our business school,” Harris said during the speech. “Thank you for your generosity and, more importantly, your commitment to education and your belief in changing lives and communities.”

Eli Knaus said: “I believe that tonight is the end of Don and that education is the great equalizer.”
