Userpilot, a product-driven growth platform for SaaS companies, has raised $4.6 million in seed funding in a round led by Silicon Valley with participation from ScOp Ventures and 500 Global. The startup’s new funding follows the $1.2 million it raised in a pre-seed round last year.

UserPilot helps companies “achieve higher levels of user activation, engagement and retention” by enabling them to tailor in-app onboarding experiences to users.

Yazan Sehwail, CEO of UserPilot, told TechCrunch that companies will use the latest funding to build new features that will help them further reduce customer support and engineering costs.

Sehwail’s entrepreneurial journey began after college in 2011.

“At that time we were working on various projects with companies like BMW and the idea for Usurpilot came when we were working for one of our clients at the time. We spent a lot of time and resources on building them, but later on we realized that they were rarely used and the client had to deploy a lot of manpower to educate users about them. From Thabet with Gharabah (CTO) in 2018.

“The idea behind Userpilot is to give the product team (non-technical) the ability to create in-product experiences with no code, and introduce features to users based on their behavior.”

User Pilot helps companies save on customer support and engineering costs. Sehwail added that the startup’s ability to customize advanced experiences (with a codeless editor) will help product teams customize content that looks and feels native to their apps.

“With a user guide [companies can also] Segmenting users based on their characteristics and behaviors. This allows product teams to contextually target users when it makes the most sense,” he said.

Sehwail says it has more than 700 salaried clients, including UPAZ, Oracle, McGraw-Hill and FOCUS. The list also includes GrowthMentor – which claims to have reduced support tickets by 83% after implementing an earlier user pilot of onboarding tools.
