When Berlin-based Y42 launched in 2020, its focus was on integrating data pipelines for business intelligence. That mission has expanded somewhat over the past two years, and today Y42 announced the launch of what it calls the “Modern DataOps Cloud.” Built on data warehousing services like Snowflake and Google’s Big Query Engine, Y42’s new fully managed service aims to provide businesses with more tools to make their data stacks more accessible to more users and provide more collaboration tools and improved data management services.

“Data usage has gone beyond ad-hoc reporting and has become the lifeblood of the company. However, ad hoc data pipelines are inherently fragile and will inevitably break down over time, leading to an increase in firefighting demands and ultimately a lack of confidence in business data. For organizations that rely on data to make mission-critical decisions, this can be fatal, said Hung Dang, founder and CEO of Y42.

Y42 argues that the new Data Ops Cloud will enable organizations to easily create and operate production-ready pipelines and use the data coming through them.

As before, Y42 fully manages the data stack using open source tools such as Airbyte to integrate various services and DBT Core for transformation. For advanced users and data teams, Y42 offers Git-based version control (although non-technical users can also use this via the service’s web application), and with this new platform the company now offers improved management tools such as data cataloging. Property ownership classifications, data contracts and multi-level access controls.

“Our vision is for every organization – a single data engineer, data analyst or entire data team – to efficiently create and run production-ready data pipelines and use data in any downstream application to make better business decisions. Y42’s Modern DataOps Cloud makes this vision a reality – today .

In addition to the new managed service, Y42 announced today that it has brought on Jules Cantwell as President. Prior to Y42, Cantwell was COO of Qualtrics EMEA.

“The technology industry is at a tipping point where the breadth and volume of data companies are collecting is rapidly increasing their ability to manage it. The need to manage data pipelines in a modern data ops cloud has become mission critical,” said Cantwell. He has a team.

The company recently brought on Max Herrmann, co-founder of data integration platform Cask (acquired by Google in 2018) and most recently CMO at Swim.ai as VP of Marketing.
