Hawaii Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect responsible for a robbery at a Hilo business on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

On Dec. 6 at 9:34 a.m., Hilo Patrol officers responded to a retail business in the 300 block of Kilauea Avenue where a store employee reported a male suspect fled the business with a stolen purse and other items. The store associate attempted to stop the male suspect outside the store and the suspect brandished a knife-type object, threatening the store associate before fleeing the area on foot toward the Bayfront soccer field.

The suspect is described as a local male of medium build and dark skin, 6 feet tall and with a goatee. He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, jeans and a dark colored hat with the word “Hawaii” on it.

The Area I Criminal Investigation Division is continuing this investigation, which is being investigated as first-degree robbery.

Police are asking anyone who knows the identity of the suspect to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311 or Area 1 Criminal Investigation Division Detective Clarence Davis at (808) 961-2382 or email Clarity. davies@hawaiicounty.gov.
