9 fashion trends you’ll see everywhere in 2023

Wondering which fashion trends will take off this year? Read on for the 9 trends seen on the runways and red carpets that everyone will be adopting soon.

1) Ballet flats

Remember in the late 2000s when ballet flats were all the rage? If you’ve been keeping a pair or two in the back of your closet, rejoice, because dance-inspired designs and ballet flats in particular are officially in style once again. Miu Miu has been a staunch proponent of the ballet flat revival, with added straps, buckles and embellishments to wear them outside of barre class.

2) Viva Magenta

Every year trendsetters look forward to Pantone’s color of the year, and for 2023 the color experts have announced bright and bold Viva Magenta as the hue that will dominate the next twelve months. From a vibrant pink with a pair of heels or nail polish to wearing the all-over color with a colorful dress, 2023 is all about embracing bright colors.

3) The modern chain

Medieval fashion, but make it modern. Designers have taken a lot of style inspiration from medieval battle styles, with the introduction of metal lattice-like pieces in their latest collections. These pieces are great for showing off some skin or layering over fitted bases to elevate a look.

4) Boleros & Shrugs

Shrink jackets, boleros and shrugs are everywhere now; Think of it as the inverse of the 2010s “cold soup” trend. These are great for spring layering when it’s not cold enough for a coat but not warm enough to go all out without a jacket. Pay attention to proportions when styling; if the jacket is small and fitted, combine it with wide-leg pants or a voluminous skirt.

5) Cargo Pants

Baggy jeans have been popular in the 2020s, but 2023 is especially about baggy pants. These utilitarian trousers are at their best and look great when paired with a cropped top that plays with proportions. Style with feminine heels and a ladies bag to play with the combination of masculine and feminine styles.

6) No necklace

This is a bit of an anti-trend, but as TikTok creators like @ladymollyelizabeth have recently pointed out, celebrities are opting to ditch necklaces on the red carpet lately. Instead, they’re letting the collarbones and cleavage do the talking, often accessorizing with statement earrings while leaving the neck unadorned.

7) Hot pants

Once the weather starts to warm up, expect to see shorts and hot pants on the way out. We’re already seeing celebrities like Kendall Jenner rocking the “no pants” look over tights, so why not go for it and bare those legs this spring?

8) Translucent fabrics

Light fabrics and warm spring weather go hand in hand, so embrace sheer fabrics and don’t be afraid to show some skin. A see-through sheer dress would look great as a swimsuit cover-up, or a see-through top over a sheer bralette would also look chic.

9) Bubble edges

Yes, those bubble lips that were popular in the mid-2000s are back! For the 2023 iteration, bubble skirts are slightly more free-flowing and asymmetrical in their lines, or incorporated into a waisted dress that offers a new shape.
