Virginia TechThe season got off to a great start in Friday’s 20–17 loss to Old Dominion. After the game, things took a turn for the worse when the hockey players discovered items missing from their lockers.
According to ESPN’s David M. Hale, police are investigating the situation after confirming the missing property.
“The Virginia Tech Athletic Department has confirmed that there were items missing from the Virginia Tech locker room prior to Friday night’s football game against Old Dominion in Norfolk,” the school said in a statement. “The university is working with law enforcement and Old Dominion University on the matter and will have no further comment.”
It was a shaky start to the tenure of new coach Brent Pry, who was coaching the Hokies for the first time since replacing Justin Phuen. Virginia Tech took a 7–0 lead in the first quarter but trailed 10–7 at halftime.Old Dominion’s only touchdown in the final two minutes of the second quarter came on a 25-yard fumble return.
The Hokies regained the lead 17–13 after three quarters and the Kings took possession with less than 3 minutes to play. Old Dominion marched 59 yards in nine plays, with Blake Watson scoring the game-winning touchdown with 33 seconds to play.
Virginia Tech next plays at Bowling Green on Saturday, while Old Dominion faces East Carolina.
