A family of local business owners bought the former Carrie Serino in North Royalton

NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio – A family of local business owners who operate convenience stores, gas stations, hotels and small restaurants has acquired the former Carrie Serino’s Italian Restaurant on Ridge Road.

In the company name MAHA Laxmi 8922 Inc. Family members — who bought the Carrie Serino property for $500,000 — plan to own and operate a party center there and lease the restaurant space to a restaurant.

Pratik Patel, president of MAHA Laxmi 8922, said that they will call the party hall to Royalton Palace. They hope to open in the spring of 2023.

“My family is Indian, and it’s hard to find a party hall in our community,” Patel, 33, told cleveland.com. “This makes it easier for us to host an event, and it’s just down the road from our temple (the Greater Cleveland Shiva Vishnu Temple).”

But the party center will not be exclusive to the Indian community, Patel said. “It’s for everyone.”

Patel said he and his family have not yet signed on for the building’s restaurant. He said they are not looking for a specific restaurant.

“But Italy was good because people were experiencing Italian restaurants there,” Patel said.

Patel said he and his family will hire an architect to help bring the building up to city code and renovate it.

“We’re excited to see the building come to fruition, we’re hopeful and we look forward to working with them,” said Tom Jordan, the city’s community development coordinator.

MAHA Laxmi consists of about 10 Patel family members. Among the local businesses he personally owns and operates are Wayback Burger in Broadview Heights, Whitney Beverage & Deli in Strongsville and M&J Beverage & Deli in Parma. They own two Deli-4-Less businesses in Broadview Heights.

The Patels operate businesses in Kent, Grafton, Macedonia and other Northeast Ohio municipalities.

MAHA Laxmi purchased Carrie Serino’s estate from Mark Glassman, founder and owner of Mark’s Deep Discount Stores. Jordan Glassman intended to keep the building as a restaurant and event center, but the plans fell through.

In addition to paying $500,000 for the land and construction, the Patels also spent $325,000 on equipment at the former restaurant, for a total of $825,000.

Cary Serino on the ridge between Sprague and Albion roads closed suddenly in February 2020. The restaurant first opened in 1963 and stands on a 13-acre parcel.
