A Monessen man is accused of throwing a rock at a business, fighting officers

Monson, Pa

Monessen police said their run-in with Charles Thurman began with a call from MRC Global, a business in town, saying Thurman was terrorizing workers and throwing rocks. Thurman allegedly fled the scene, but Monesson officers pulled him over a short time later.

According to police, Thurman got out of the car and immediately became aggressive, yelling racial slurs at the officers and threatening to shoot them. At 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds, Thurman wrestled several officers from different departments.

However, once he returned to the Monessen police station, detectives said he again became angry, violent and destructive.

“While he was confined in his cell, he started throwing toilet paper, feces on the wall, on the floor and threatened to throw feces at the officers,” said Monessen Police Chief David Uhasz.

Yuhaz said a few officers suffered minor cuts and bruises as a result. Thurman is being held on bond in the Westmoreland County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault.
