Badgley Mischka and Tommy Hilfiger head straight back to NY Fashion Week

NEW YORK, Sept 12 (Reuters) – For the first time in almost three years, Tommy Hilfiger and Badgley Mischka presented their new collections in person at New York Fashion Week.

“It’s really exciting to be back, you know, in real life fashion shows, in real life. You know, interacting with people instead of just Zooms and Facetimes. It’s so much better,” said James Mischka, who Mark Badgley makes up one half of the American design duo Badgley Mischka.

A recent trip to Morocco inspired their latest collection, which featured evening wear in the bold and bright colors seen in the spice markets.

“We spent some time there earlier in the summer and connected with some nice sample rooms there that helped us with the collection,” Mischka said.

“We often do neutrals, but for us, eveningwear just comes to life when it’s in color,” Badgley said. “We find that our friends, people, press, whatever, they’re going to remember her and that beautiful tangerine dress.”

The inspiration for Hilfiger’s more casual looks came from the late artist Andy Warhol.

“When I met him in the ’80s, he inspired me to be, I would say, surround my brand and myself with pop culture and pop-culture icons, which he did,” Hilfiger said.

Hilfiger showed designs with the brand’s new logo in the rain at Brooklyn’s Skyline Drive-In theater with an audience wearing plastic ponchos. The runway show, which included pop culture stars Ashley Graham and model Kate Moss’ daughter Lila Moss, closed with drummer Travis Barker performing an exclusive song.

New York Fashion Week will close on Wednesday.
