INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis native Kelly Jones is focused on making an impact in her hometown.

She is the co-founder of the Be Nimble Foundation. The organization focuses on creating a diverse and inclusive technology ecosystem by providing talent development and entrepreneurship support.

“We can work and talk directly with our people — black and brown people, mostly 16 to 35-year-olds, who are looking to make a career transition, mostly in the technology sector,” Jones said.

Currently, Benimble is offering free training through their OnDeck Appling program.

They offer eight different certifications in Microsoft and Google training programs, including product development, digital marketing, and graphic design.

Training for these skills costs up to $10,000 each, but Bank of America is offering scholarships to 250 students.

“We live, we work, we play here, this is home. So if we can’t invest where our neighbors are, you know, for people who need help, then you know what we’re doing here?” said Andy Crask, president of Bank of America, Indianapolis.

Eliminating spending barriers is consistent with Bank of America’s investment in race and economic opportunity.

Lawrence North graduate and mom Kyra Graham is taking advantage of the free training.

“I want a better life for me and my son. I want us to be financially stable,” Kyra Graham said. “For some, being involved in technology can change a lot of our lives and change things for us, it opens doors for us. So it means a lot to me to be involved.”

At last check, more than 90 people attended the free training. Jones told WRTV there is a waiting list, but a new co-hort starts every month.

“People have day jobs, kids and all kinds of things going on. So we don’t want them to be public anywhere. Everything is 100% online, and it’s at its own pace,” Jones said.
