Business owners respond to new regulations for adult entertainment facilities

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – The Fargo City Commission has approved amendments to the ordinance regarding “adult entertainment facilities.”

Zoning codes define and regulate where these types of businesses can operate. Some business owners are unhappy with the city’s efforts to tighten its rules.

Kim Patterson, owner of Enchantasis in Fargo, said her business would be hit hard after the zoning ordinance passes.

She says her business is now classified as a large bookstore, which she says has many impacts.

Patterson said the rule would affect how they are allowed to advertise and their ability to expand or move.

She added that it will have a lasting effect on the time her customers visit her establishment.

Patterson is hoping the city will work with them to make it more transparent about how her business operates.

“There’s not a lot of talk about being grandfathered in the way the word is said. I don’t know if we have to put up signs saying you have to be 18 to shop in stores now,” she said. .

Enchantsey attorney Mark Western said the ordinance is a clear signal that the city wants to treat all adult entertainment businesses as one.

“The city commission has put places like Enchantasis in the dispensary,” he says, adding that he doesn’t believe Enchantasis should be subject to the same regulations as a rap bar or adult bookstore.

Enchantasys has been open for almost 20 years with two locations in Fargo and 4 more stores in the Midwest.
