EXPLAINED: A guide to Spain’s big January fashion sales

JANUARY is always the time when clothes shoppers in Spain can pick up a bargain in the big sales.

With the Three Kings Friday holiday gone, tomorrow sees the official start of the winter sales until March.

Some big chains already offer discounts, but most will wait until January 7 (Saturday) – the traditional start of New Year’s sales.

Although the Trade Act 2012 established two main sales periods in a year, individual sellers have the flexibility to decide when exactly they start and end.

January sales typically see discounts of up to 70% on selected items, but there have been warnings over the autumn that the current economic climate could lead to fewer big bargains.

As for the dates, Inditex’s flagship chain including Zara, Oysho, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Lefties and Massimo Dutti will start offering offers online from 8pm on January 6 and in their stores the following day.

Sales at the Inditex store last until March 7.

The Tendam Group with brands such as Springfield and Women’s Secret will also host on Saturday with their campaigns running until March 7.

The El Corte Ingles group, including its Sfera stores, has had discounts of up to 40% and this will end on Wednesday.

Then it starts all over again with a new set of sales this Saturday.

Swedish-owned H & M launch their offers on Tuesday while Mango started discounting on December 29.

Cortefiel was first off the blocks with its sales starting on Christmas Day.
