“Let’s begin with our top story. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty said he makes films “”only to entertain”” the audience and his upcoming directorial Cirkus is a step in the same direction. Shetty, known for the Golmaal franchise and All The Best: Fun Begins and action dramas like the Singham series, was confident that his latest release will be loved too. He admitted that – when he first started, he was just a filmmaker. Then, with the kind of love he got, he began to make films for his audience.
Starring Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma, alongside several veteran comedic actors in supporting roles, Cirkus is based on William Shakespeare’s classic play The Comedy of Errors. It is set to release on December 23.”
Moving on, the Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer announced its title on Wednesday, 14th of December. The Luv Ranjan film is now called Tu Jhuthi Main Makkaar. Shraddha took to her social media to announce the title. Along with the title, she also shared a title announcement video, which gave a glimpse into her and Ranbir’s characters in the movie. This is after a long time that fans of Ranbir get to see him in a romantic role. He was last seen romancing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma in Karan Johar’s 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Tu Jhuthi Main Makkaar is slated for a festive release on Holi, March 8, 2023.
Actor Shriya Saran, who starred in the recently released film Drishyam 2, revealed why she chose to not talk about her pregnancy. Shriya also said that she was concerned about “getting work in time” if she told industry people about her pregnancy. In a recent interview, Shriya further opened up about the fact that films are a visual medium and actors are always under the pressure of looking “a certain way”. Shriya added that everyone should be grateful to the wives of the actors, who support them by taking care of the house and children. Shriya Saran and her husband Andrei Koscheev welcomed daughter Radha in January 2021. She announced the arrival of her daughter through a social media post.
Meanwhile, Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s looks in the recently released track Besharam Rang created a lot of buzz for their upcoming film Pathaan. While both the actors looked relatively different with their beach-side party look, their stylist Shaleena Nathani says that the idea behind making them look sensuous was to present them in a never-seen-before avatar. Besides highlighting the effort she and her team have gone through to make the two actors look effortlessly stylish according to the director’s brief, Shaleena also credits Shah Rukh and Deepika’s personalities for carrying the look so well. Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Aanand, also starring John Abraham is set to release in theatres on January 25.
Actor Diljit Dosanjh was rather perplexed after Kartik Aaryan explained the role of intimacy coordinators in cinema. During the Round Table with Rajeev Masand, several actors including Rajkummar Rao, Shefali Shah, Tripti Dimri, Vijay Varma, Kartik Aaryan and Tillotama Shome discussed various subjects including complicated dialogues, career choices and shooting kissing scenes. This year, Shakun Batra’s Gehraiyaan, featuring Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi in the lead roles, made news for featuring intimacy coordinators. In an interview, Indian-Ukranian Dar Gai, an intimacy director, explained the process and how they had to get the cast comfortable with each other. She said that – There are also different techniques that we can explore to make us feel comfortable. Intimacy direction then is more like choreography.
Director Vivek Agnihotri took to social media to take a dig at Anurag Kashyap’s comment on the success of Kantara and Pushpa, and how that could destroy the industry. Sharing a news article where Kashyap had said how these south films are destroying the industry, The Kashmir Files director wrote that “he disagreed with the views of “Bollywood’s one & only Milord”. A few comments, however, rightly pointed out how the headline was misleading as Anurag had instead lauded these films in the said interview. For the unversed, in a recent appearance on a roundtable interaction, Kashyap recalled telling director Nagraj Manjule that the success of his film Sairat would probably ‘destroy’ Marathi cinema.
It’s been 20 years since actor Vivek Oberoi delivered a breakthrough performance as a gangster in Company and followed it up with the romantic Saathiya. One would expect that he was set for a scintillating career on the back of these two hits, but Vivek said in a recent interview, that his career had more ups and downs than mainstream masala. The actor’s award-winning performances were followed by phases when he had no work, he braved rejections multiple times and made a comeback. Since, then he has starred in shows like Inside Edge and forayed into South Indian cinema with films like Vivegam, Lucifer and Kaduva. He is also part of Rohit Shetty’s web series, Indian Police Force, alongside Siddharth Malhotra.
Lastly, director Anirudh Iyer, after years of assisting filmmaker Aanand L Rai, branched out to make his feature An Action Hero headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat. The film, an outlandish action thriller, was released on December 2 to widespread acclaim but failed to show any action at the ticket window. The box office response has puzzled Anirudh, who doesn’t know where he went wrong. He said that – he was overwhelmed by the response. But, he didn’t expect such bad box office numbers. He pointed out that one learns from experience and moves on to better things.
