Let’s begin with our top story. Film bodies on Wednesday, 18th January welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments, where he cautioned BJP leaders from making unnecessary remarks against movies and personalities to grab headlines. During the BJP National Executive meeting in New Delhi, PM Modi had said, “No one should make unnecessary comments that would overshadow the hard work we do.” Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, president of the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), said that PM Modi’s speech was a “big boost of confidence” for the Hindi film industry. The Prime minister’s remarks come amid the boycott call against Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film Pathaan, by a few senior BJP leaders.
Meanwhile, Actor Shah Rukh Khan is set to return to the big screen with Pathaan, his first film in a starring role in over four years. In a new featurette for the movie, Shah Rukh spoke about his co-star John Abraham, and jokingly admitted that ‘it’s been a long time since he entertained people with a good film.’ Shah Rukh shared that it was fortunate to have a veteran action star like John Abraham on board because John would offer valuable insights into performing fight scenes. John plays the villain in the film, and Shah Rukh said that he was hesitant about fighting him on screen because he wasn’t sure if it would look believable. Shah Rukh described him as a ‘gentle giant’.
Global star Priyanka Chopra, who has been making a name for herself in Hollywood, recently came out in support of the Pakistani movie Joyland, which has been shortlisted in the Best International Feature category at the Oscars. Joyland, helmed by Saim Sadiq, is the first-ever Pakistani feature to have made the Oscars’ shortlist cut. It was shortlisted alongside the Indian entry, Chhello Show. Priyanka also shared two Instagram stories, applauding the Indian film RRR, for its incredible success. She was photographed at one of the various screenings of the film being held in the US. The actor shared photos with filmmaker SS Rajamouli and composer MM Keeravani, and wrote, “Least I can do to contribute to this incredible Indian film’s journey.”
“Moving on. The Kapoor family is known to be quite close, and Karisma Kapoor’s latest photos gave a glimpse of their bond. The Bollywood actor took to Instagram to share photos of a family gathering which had Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Neetu Kapoor, Adaar Jain, Navya Nanda and Shweta Bachchan, among others, in attendance.
Karisma’s post has photos of the family caught in an engrossing conversation. She also shared a photo of the entire clan coming together for a group photo. Neetu Kapoor also took to her Instagram and shared a couple of photos from their family time. “
“Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has been talking about body positivity a lot lately, after giving birth to her and actor Ranbir Kapoor’s daughter Raha Kapoor. In a recent interview, Alia said that she wants everyone to eat healthily, but also take a moment out of their busy lives to appreciate their own bodies.
The also actor spoke candidly about the pressure to remain fit, more so after giving birth.
Alia said she is a big foodie, but since she works in the visual medium, she cannot afford to let herself go. The actor, however, said that she has allowed herself to be a bit on the ‘chubbier’ side now since it is only natural for our bodies to undergo that journey. “
“Meanwhile, Actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja says she wants to get back to movies after a “nice break” that saw her embracing motherhood in 2022.
The actor tied the knot with businessman Anand Ahuja in 2018 and gave birth to her first child, a baby boy Vayu on August 20, 2022. She will next be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s Blind. The Neerja actor said, “Honestly, It’s been a nice break. I’ve been doing this since I was so young, but I now want to come back and start getting into things again.”” The action-thriller, directed by Shome Makhija, centres on a blind police officer in search of a serial killer.”
“Actor Gulshan Devaiah, known for films like Badhaai Do, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, and Shaitan, recently said in an interview that the Hindi film industry is ‘far more democratic’ in comparison to the South film industry. He shared that most popular actors down South come from film families but that’s not necessarily the case in Bollywood.
Gulshan also spoke about the nepotism that’s far more prevalent in the South industry and how that, cannot be a factor, in measuring the merit of the movies. The actor also added that it was a “really stupid argument that only talented people get the job” as many other factors are taken into account before an actor is finalised.”
“Lastly, Vivek Agnihotri’s much-talked-about film The Kashmir Files, which was first released in theatres in March 2021, is re-releasing in theatres today. The film’s director Vivek Agnihotri took to social media to make the announcement.
He mentioned in the caption that this was the “first time ever a film is releasing twice in a year.” The release coincides with ‘Cinema Lovers Day’ on January 20 where tickets across theatres will be available for just Rs 99. The Kashmir Files ignited a lot of controversies when it was first released in theatres but the film turned out to be a box-office success. “
