Fashion trends from Jennifer Lopez’s wedding dresses

Simple accessories paired with an ultra glam dress

After the ceremony, Lopez changed into a floor-length backless gown encrusted with pearls and Swarovski crystals to give her the appearance of a chandelier bearing her name. Harper’s Bazaar reports that it took 30 artisans a combined 700 hours to hand-embroider the pearls and crystals onto the delicate silk dress.

While this was a dramatic sight, there is inspiration to be drawn from it. Once again, the dress had a plunging neckline, giving Lopez that elongated figure. It also featured an open back, which broke up the incredibly intricate pearl and crystal pattern and served to highlight the craftsmanship. Her shoulders were also draped in cascading pearls, giving her some coverage, but not much. Because her outfit was so intricate, she kept all other elements to a minimum. In everyday life, this is a great example of separating patterns with solids (or leather, if you prefer) to give the eye a place to rest and let your statement pieces shine. Plus, simple hair and accessories can really highlight a piece, rather than detract from it.

If thousands of pearls are not in the budget, a small string will be too. “Pearls, in any quantity, are a perfect wedding accessory,” notes Pflaumer. “They give sweetness and sophistication. A single, double or triple strand over a simple sheath style would work beautifully, as would pearl studs or slightly dangling pearl earrings.”
