It’s curtain call for fashion designer Coffee Chantal when she’s murdered in the comedy mystery “Murder on the Runway,” showing at 7:00 p.m. Aug. 26 and 2:00 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Purple Box Theater in Friendswood.
The 17 actors, ages 9-18, have been working on the show all summer in a weekly production class, said Cathy Holbrook, the theater’s founding artistic director.
The show’s director Amy Keels said: “Richard Gremel’s script involves a fashion show, but mostly it’s about everyone’s relationship with the designer and a detective working to solve the murder.”
Tickets are $15.
Among the suspects are characters whose names are spoofs of real-life fashion luminaries. They include Tyra Binks, Heidi Plume, Cindy Clawford and Tim Gum.
The cast includes Caidyn Jones, Sierra Small, Ali Johnson, Rayiah Hewitt, Kat Richards, Jacob Wauters, Morgan Yoes, Megan Tanner, Sam Cook, Stellan Donoho, Moxie Delgado, Walter Hoff, Ethan Trana, Sophie Honeycutt, Kaelyn Howe, Melissa and Charlie Hayden.
Keels is a 1996 graduate of Alvin High School, where he danced on the Jacketeers practice squad. She studied at the College of the Continent before completing a master’s degree in industrial organizational psychology.

Growing up, Keels took lessons and performed at the Purple Box.
“It was such a huge part of my development; so I’m glad I came back this year,” she said.
Her son, Cameron Keels, 12, often performs at the Purple Box, even though he’s not on “Murder on the Runway.”
“Cameron’s dream is to be a voice actor, but he also loves being on stage,” she said. “Purple Box Theater has helped him grow as a performer and given him the confidence to pursue acting. During his time at Purple Box, he has found a community of actors who support and encourage each other, which has only enriched his experience.”
“Twelve Angry Jurors” is set for September
The next project for Amy Keels will be managing the theater’s September 16-26 production of Twelve Angry Jurors with an adult cast.
She will also choreograph the musical “Annie,” which will represent the Purple Box at next year’s Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta.
The main roles in “Annie” will be portrayed by Aubrey Stephens, Andy Roberts, Kailynn Scott, Caidyn Jones and Jaxson Carr.
