Georgia Tech ranks among the top public universities in recent undergraduate rankings


US News & World Report has released its 2023 Best Colleges Rankings.

Georgia Institute of Technology continues to be ranked among the top public universities in the nation, and its programs are ranked among the best in the nation according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.*

In the most recent report, released Sept. 12, for the fifth year in a row, all 10 of Georgia Tech’s engineering programs were ranked in the top 5 in the nation, with seven of those programs ranked first or second in the discipline. Georgia Tech was also named 5th overall in the Best Undergraduate Computer Science Programs. More than 66% of Georgia Tech’s undergraduate students are enrolled in either engineering or computer science. Georgia Tech is also ranked among the top 20 best undergraduate business programs in the country.

Overall, Georgia Tech ranks 15th in the Best Public University category. Georgia Tech ranked 44th among public and private universities, sharing the spot with Brandeis University, Case Western Reserve University, Northeastern University and Tulane University. Among the nation’s most innovative universities, Georgia Tech ranked No. 8. In other categories of academic excellence, Georgia Tech ranked No. 5 for Co-op/Internship Programs and moved to No. 16 for Senior Capstone Projects.

“We are proud to see our programs in engineering, computing and other fields among the best in the nation,” said Georgia Tech President Angel Cabera. Although this year we show five points less than last year, we appreciate that you are once again listed among the best public universities in the country. Our successful efforts to serve more students and lower costs have penalized us at these levels, which is unfortunate. At the same time, the ranking correctly indicates that we need to do better in terms of social mobility. We have one of the best graduation rates in the nation for Pell students, but we serve fewer Pell students than we should, and we must continue to work to change that.

Digging into the College of Computing’s numbers, four of Tech’s computer science programs ranked in the top 5 in the nation. Game development at No. 3 and cybersecurity at No. 4. Georgia Tech’s artificial intelligence program ranked No. 6. Among the national universities. Georgia Tech is tied with Cornell University, Princeton University and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the No. 5 overall computer science ranking.

Tech’s two schools were ranked No. 1 overall, maintaining its No. 4 overall ranking for best undergraduate engineering programs. The Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering earned the No. 1 ranking for the first time, and the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering was recognized for the 28th consecutive year.

The Scheller College of Business is ranked No. 19 for best undergraduate business programs, along with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and the University of Washington. Scheller’s three business programs are ranked No. 5, No. 4 in Quantitative Analytics and No. 3 in both Business Analytics and Management Information Systems.

Georgia Tech’s ranking for best undergraduate education rose from 58th to No. 41.

Many college rankings are recognized by higher education organizations. Each of the rating groups uses different criteria to arrive at their ratings. Here are some other recent results from this year:
