Malachi Carter is just eight games away from becoming Georgia Tech’s all-time leader in games played.

“I expect him to go out there and play at a high level. It’s his senior year. You hope he does it himself,” Long said, adding, “If he’s rolling out there, we’ll roll with him. If not, we need someone else who can do it. That’s how it is.”
And that’s fine with Carter, whose response—understated and self-impressed—fits perfectly with every answer he gives about himself.
“That’s just the nature of football, you know? It will be the same when I get to the next level after this year. It’s something I’ve always been used to,” he said.
There was nothing modest about Carter’s arrest at Mercedes-Benz Stadium last year. Of those 76 catches, he might rank as the best: a 27-yard touchdown plunge, pirouetting in Georgia Tech’s 45-22 win over No. 21 North Carolina. Running down a fade route on Tech’s sideline, Carter caught the ball over the head of a covering defensive back and made a toe tap to secure the score.

“If I hadn’t dropped that toe, who knows how that game would have gone? But it was an amazing game, it was amazing, and I hope to have many more this season,” Carter said.
(FYI, Carter doesn’t wear the number 7 as a wishful honor. He and his younger brothers, Matthias and Messiah, have seven letters in their first names.)
It will return to its original location on Labor Day evening. Georgia Tech’s most-rented player, with all-time record-breaking longevity, still has a lot to prove.
