JAGS BEAT SAINT FRANCIS IN COMEBACK FASHION, 3-2


INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI volleyball team fell behind 2-0 but won the final three sets to defeat Saint Francis in their home opener and first match of the 2022 Hampton Inn Invitational, 3-2.

The Red Flashes won the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22. The Jags totaled 10 kills and four blocks in the first set, but gave up free points behind the service line with four errors. St. Francis served four aces in the opening set. IUPUI improved their serve with seven aces in the second set, but still fell 25-22, giving the Red Flash a 2-0 lead.

Down 2-0, the Jags racked up 16 kills and two blocks while cutting their service errors to just three, leading them to a 25-18 victory in the third set. IUPUI dominated at the net with 18 kills to St. Francis’ six kills in the fourth set. The Jags hit six aces to outscore the Red Flash 25-19 and tie the game at 2-2.

The fifth and deciding set came down to the service line. The Jags had three service aces with match point being won via an ace from Brooke Phillips.

Overall, the Jags out hit the Red Flash 63 to 43 and recorded eight aces. The second student Brianna Brown recorded 20 kills followed by Allie Pogue with 16 killed. Emily Alan AND Millay Madison each amounted to nine kills. Alan and the freshman Morgan Ostrowski recorded a .333 hitting percentage. Phillips and Addie Evans each recorded three aces. Evans also led the defense with 35 digs followed by Phillips and Emma Ashcraft with 12 digs.

IUPUI is 1-0 in the Hampton Inn Invitational and 2-2 on the season. They face the Drake Bulldogs at 12:30pm and the Montana Griz at 6pm to wrap up the Hampton Inn Invitational tomorrow.
