Change is in the air in the La Jolla business community. Many new enterprises have either opened recently or plan to in the next few days or weeks. In addition, a major hotel has new ownership, a major supermarket has a new name and a long-standing restaurant is celebrating a big anniversary.

The beauty of the well

La Jolla resident Phoebe Geimer recently opened The Well Ethics in the 8th Harmony Entertainment Center at 7818 Ivanhoe Street in the village.

“Skin is my focus,” Guymer said. I work on and off the skin to balance it out which gives glowing skin.

“We look at the microbiome of the skin, not to exfoliate but to develop and work with the lymphatic system,” she added. We use a machine that stimulates the lymphatic system by simulating a heartbeat.

For clients with issues like hormonal acne, tension headaches or jaw joint problems, Geimer uses a facial massage that works on the muscles of the face. “If you do the whole series, it’s like a non-surgical facelift,” she said.

The global boutique real estate brokerage agency opened its first San Diego office Oct. 10 at 1025 Prospect St., La Jolla.

The Whiskey & Leather Boutique will open its third location on Saturday, November 5 at 7884 Girard Ave. It will open in La Jolla, joining stores in Santa Barbara and Del Mar.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the store offers 15 percent off everything and gift bags.

The men’s and women’s clothing establishment, owned by local resident Ariel Hujar, has items like jeans and T-shirts, as well as hats and brightly colored tops. It also sometimes hosts private events that include whiskey tastings, although whiskey is not served at the La Jolla store.

“My best friend and I opened Santa Barbara seven years ago,” Hujar said. “We were both tomboys who wanted to have this kind of aesthetic shopping space. We wanted something gender-neutral for men to come in as well.”

“There’s a little something for everyone,” Hujar says, including brands and styles that cycle in and out with the seasons. For the La Jolla opening, there will be a winter cashmere line.

“I love the area and I always open shops in the areas where I live,” she said. “Also, La Jolla needed another boutique.”

Custom dress by Mamac

After 10 years of tailoring in La Jolla, Mamak Bahrami Custom Tailoring will open at Mamak on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 920 Kline St.

The business offers custom alterations for men’s and women’s clothing, from suits to prom dresses, with most work done within 24 hours.

“I went to school in Iran and here. [in the United States]Bahrami said. “It’s my passion and my hobby; it’s everything. I love sewing and the customer response.”

In addition to her handicrafts, Bahrami also has a catalog of clothing that her customers shop for her convenience.

Classic burger

Classic Burger will open in mid-November at 615 Pearl St.

As the name suggests, customers can have a burger that lets “the ingredients shine” without the fries, says chef Perez Segura Jr.

“There will be no truffles from France, just a good consistent burger,” says Segura. We want simple ingredients with big, high flavors.

But with a background in fine dining, Segura can’t resist adding something different. For example, instead of simply using red onions, some creatures make red onion jam. “It brings out the sweetness of the onion and brings a little acidity to the burger,” he said.

Segura grew up cooking under the guidance of his grandfather and started preparing family dinners from the age of 8. He later entered the restaurant business and toured San Diego’s fine dining establishments.

“Eating good food is great, but the effort that goes into those foods is astronomical,” he said. “Food can be simple but bold. I like simplicity.”

The 376-room San Diego Marriott La Jolla, built in 1985, recently sold for $187.6 million as part of a multibillion-dollar portfolio sale to an international property management firm.

The hotel, at 4240 La Jolla Village Drive, last changed hands in 2010. In 2016, Carey Watermark Investors bought it for $131 million. The real estate investment trust, now known as Watermark Lodging Trust, agreed to be acquired by Brookfield Asset Management for $3.8 billion in May. Watermark’s portfolio of 25 hotels, now owned by Brookfield, comprises more than 8,100 rooms.

According to commercial real estate firm Costar, the estimated sale price of the Marriott La Jolla was $188 million, or about $500,000 per room. By comparison, the 416-room Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine sold for $216 million in August, or more than $518,000 per room. – San Diego Union-Tribune

Celebration

José Court celebrates its 50th anniversary with a “50ñera” party on Saturday, November 5. The celebration will include drink specials, a daytime mariachi band and a nightly DJ from 11 a.m. to closing at 1037 Prospect St. .

Jose’s has been owned by Tig Mitchell since the summer of 2007. The restaurant’s eponymous chef, Jose Rodriguez, has been working in the kitchen for the past 35 years.

Tents

After more than six months of preparation, the La Jolla Vons supermarket at 7544 Girard Ave has been transformed into a similar but upscale Pavilion brand.

“We offer an expanded selection of organic products, wagyu beef and dry-aged beef, a wine cellar and a selection of specialty cheeses,” said Courtney Carranza, director of communications and public affairs for Vons’ Southern California division. La Jolla Light.
