LGBTQ travel spotlighted on Pride Day at State Fair

From the Finger Lakes region to the Adirondacks to Central New York and the State Fair, when it comes to tourism, New York has the most popular destinations for the LGBTQ community.

“It’s a real point of pride for us that New York state was one of the first states in the nation…THE first state in the nation to have a day dedicated to the LGBTQ community,” said Ross Levi, executive director of the New York State Division of Tourism.

Levi hosted a tourism segment to inform members of the LGBTQ community on places to travel. He said LGBTQ tourism alone brings in about $80 billion a year.

“For us, that means economic development for New York state and jobs for New Yorkers,” Levi said. “Tourism is one of the biggest employers in New York state, generally responsible for one in 10 jobs literally.”

Levi said New York is the most popular destination in the world for LGBTQ travelers.

“Whether that’s seeing a Broadway show in New York City, whether that’s going to the beach communities of Fire Island, whether that’s going to a Pride event all across New York state, celebrating women’s rights in the Finger Lakes, literally an endless of amount of things that are of interest to LGBTQ travelers,” he said.
