1. At what age did you start playing volleyball and what do you like most about playing it?

JH: I started playing my freshman year (14 years old) and my favorite thing about playing is after I win a big game or after I win a big point or rally. The excitement and rush you feel as a team is an unbeatable feeling.

2. Why did you choose Virginia Tech?

JH: My parents met at Virginia Tech, so I grew up repeating hockey. However, when it came time to make a college decision, the athletic program and the overall environment sold me on continuing my family’s legacy there.

3. What are you most excited about going into your first season as a hockey player?

JH: I’m really excited for the first game and getting closer to the team! It’s scary, but it’s so exciting to get to the next level where everyone shares the same goal (to win) because you’re introduced to a completely different aspect of the game.

4. What position do you play and how did you start playing that position?

JH: I play middle helper. It sounds so generic but growing up I was always the tallest player on my team so my coaches treated me like MB.

5. What is your major and why did you choose it?

JH: I originally wanted to go into the medical field and maybe pursue physical therapy, but right now it’s human development. However, I plan to change it.

6. Describe yourself in three words

JH: Funny, energetic, determined

7. What is your favorite place to eat in Blacksburg so far?

JH: Avelino

8. What does being a hockey player mean to you?

JH: To me, being a hockey player means being a standard individual in all aspects. Athletics, academics, social etc. means being proud of your school and being proud of the people around you.
