Meet your favorite Texas Tech player on August 27th

Meet the Red Raiders is back.

Obviously, the pandemic has increased the fun interactions between players and fans, but that’s all behind us and you know Joey McGuire doesn’t want to miss an opportunity to talk to every Texas Tech football fan face-to-face. Everything is possible.

I attended the Columbus Tech Night fringes and Joey McGuire was everywhere. We got there early and the place filled up around us as hundreds of Red Raiders piled in for pulled pork sandwiches and unsweetened tea. After the place was packed, McGuire arrived at the building and the atmosphere changed. Before the actual event began, Joey stood between the seats and walked down the row shaking hands and taking selfies.

It wasn’t part of the process, that’s just Joey McGuire.

During the night’s auction, McGuire bid on and won a Rodney Allison signed helmet with an old-school Double T. Then when his own autographed football came along, he grabbed the case and showed it off, getting the biggest donation. the evening.

Later, Rodney Allison addressed the crowd and it was great. The applause was in due course, then it was Joey McGuire’s turn. A standing ovation as he stepped to the microphone. When he finished, he stopped. Then he left the stage and many people surprised him. He was in his body.

We pretty much left after the event, but I can assure you that McGuire stayed until every single red Raider shook his hand and took every selfie.

He’s that kind of dude.

He’ll get another round of handshakes and selfies with the Texas Tech football team on Aug. 27.

The Meet the Red Raiders event takes fans through the Sports Performance Center to get biographies from players and coaches.

Some of my childhood Texas Tech football memories are walking down the goal line, meeting my heroes and spending some time with my dad. I’m glad the new Texas Tech fans can experience the same impact when interacting with the current team.
